Prof. Jagdish Mukhi

Prof. Jagdish Mukhi served as the 28th Governor of Assam from 2017 to 2023. He has had a long and
distinguished career in public service and social welfare. He served as a Member of the Delhi
Legislative Assembly and held various ministerial positions. In his capacity as Minister of Finance,
he played a key role in implementing key economic policies with respect to simplification of
taxation system. As Minister of Higher Education, Prof. Mukhi oversaw the development of
education institutions in Delhi and worked to improve access to quality education. He also served
as the Minister of Planning. Prof. Mukhi’s gubernatorial career began with his appointment as the
Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. He subsequently served as the Governor
of Assam, Nagaland (additional charge), and Mizoram (additional charge). In these roles, he played
a crucial part in promoting development, maintaining peace and stability, and addressing the
unique challenges faced by each state. His career has been characterised by his dedication to public
service. He has always been a strong advocate for the rights of the marginalised and disadvantaged
sections of society.
Shri Arun Kumar Mishra

Shri Arun Kumar Mishra is a renowned Indian jurist who served as the Chairperson of the
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India from 2021 to 2024. Justice Mishra’s judicial
journey began in 1999 when he was appointed a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Before
that, he was elected as the youngest Chairman of Bar Council of India (1998-99). In this capacity, he
worked for improvement of legal education. His legal acumen and dedication led to his rapid rise
through the ranks, and in 2010, he became the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. He
subsequently served as the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court before being elevated to the
Supreme Court of India in 2014. During his tenure as a Supreme Court judge, Justice Mishra
delivered numerous landmark judgments. Upon his retirement from the Supreme Court in 2020,
Justice Mishra was appointed the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission. Justice
Mishra’s legacy is marked by his unwavering commitment to justice, human rights, and the rule of
law. His contributions to the Indian judiciary and his leadership of the NHRC have had a lasting
impact on the nation’s legal landscape and its efforts to protect the fundamental rights of its
citizens.
